WARM WEATHER

On Sunday, we broke out the water slide so the boys could have some fun. We were wishing we could just turn the key and open the pool, but I was told opening the pool is not that easy. There is a whole process that needs to be followed. Soon- very soon!!!!! For now, we will still enjoy this little taste of summer!

Last Week...

Last week the weather was so nice, it is hard to imagine there is still a lot of the school year left. We have not even had spring break around here and it already feels like summer.
Last week Bruiser got a haircut or he was scalped we can't decide what to call it.
Galaxy Gallery was held and we enjoyed looking at all of Ben and Gabe's artwork.
Gabe won a contest last week called Sketch The Stars. His drawing appeared on the morning news and will be in the newspaper. Next month he gets to go to WSBT TV and have a special lunch and see the midday news taped. All of this and he never mentioned it to us. He is so funny.
Ben has four weeks until he has his first belt testing for taekwondo so he has been working hard on his "moves" I am so happy that Ben is excited about this. He says thank you to me every single time I drive him there. He has met some new friends in class and re- connected with some friends he has not seen in awhile. So far it has been a great decision to make the commitment.
Gabe had a basketball game today. One more game left for the season. Today as I sat there, I realized that they were playing like a team- passing, dribbling, shooting (at the correct basket) Gabe has even stopped bouncing so much (he would sort of do this bouncy jumpy thing maybe nerves, maybe excitement?!) I know I have said it before but Upward is a great program- focusing more on teamwork and acting like Christ than competitiveness and scores. We have been very happy with Gabe's first experience with basketball.
Next week the weather is suppose to remain nice. I have so many meetings, appointments and projects, I am not sure if I can juggle it. Maybe I will just sit in a lawn chair, forget it all and pretend summer is already here

Relaxing

Ben loves to take electronics apart. Today he tore into an old steering wheel from a video game. He likes to see the wire and circuitry. He keeps all of the parts and is planning on making something new. I have no doubt it will be cool!

Blue and Gold Banquet

It seems like every event we attend at this time a year is a major accomplishment. We attended the Blue and Gold Banquet tonight Ben advanced to Webelo II and Gabe to Wolf. Every year after we attend I always feel like Spring is just around the corner. We are (probably irrationally) considering opening the pool for the season the week of spring break. We will see what the next 2 weeks bring. Maybe...

A Scientist, A Sickie and a Very Tired Mommy...

This week has been either very, very bad OR very, very good- no middle of the road here.
Kevin left on Monday for Arizona. Gabe came home from school on Monday with a fever for which he STILL had on Tuesday, Wednesday, and on Thursday I took him in. No strep so they though maybe it was just viral. By Friday when he still had a fever I was crying. I was sad for Gabe but also feeling very trapped in my own home. Since Kevin was gone, I was not even getting out at night. On Saturday morning Gabe still had a fever so Kevin and I split the day between Ben's science Expo and staying with Gabe. By Saturday night Gabe didn't want to move, he had a bad cough and we made the decision he needed to go to the ER- so off he went- coming back later with a diagnosed of pneumonia. I am so thankful Gabe's doctor wanted to try and treat him at home first. I think putting kids in the hospital should be the very last resort since there are so many other bad things they can get just from being there.
Meanwhile... Ben was impressing the judges and us at the Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Expo at Notre Dame. He won a first place ribbon for his project and got to mingle with some very impressive scientists, engineers, military personnel and mathematicians. He did a GREAT job and we are so proud of him!!! We encouraged (OK- we bribed) Ben to do well and follow some basic manners and he would be rewarded with the Wii came he has wanted. According to Ben, he did not even "make minimum wage" on Saturday because a 50.00 Wii game and 10 hours of work only equals 5.00 an hour.- He is so funny!
I hope this week is back to normal. Looking on the positive side. My house is clean, organized and the laundry is done. I finished so many projects that had been put aside for "later". It just goes to show- if I would just stay home during the day, I could get a lot accomplished. Gabe will be home again tomorrow and I am OK- I have been able to see the sunshine and feel a cool breeze on my face this weekend- I am refreshed- Gabe is hopefully on the mend- Kevin is home-for now and Ben has completed a HUGE project. All is well...for now anyway.
